I never stopped moving and it seemed like I could never slow down. But when the moment came to take control, I made a choice that forever altered the course of my life.
Growing up, I moved around a lot. My parents divorced when I was young, and I was constantly shuffled back and forth between them. At one point after a disagreement, my mom and I moved to her native country of Guatemala.
I had never learned Spanish. I had only known California. Suddenly, I was transplanted to this entirely new country with an entirely new language and an entirely new culture. It was overwhelming. My mom then left me in Guatemala and moved back to the United States as she needed to work and make money for us to survive. Over the next several years, I was shuffled around between different family members. Fortunately, my family members were kind to me and treated me well. However, it was still very difficult to not have stability or a place I could call my home.
After a number of years, I was finally back in the United States. With tears streaming down my face, I ran into my dad’s arms after being away from him for so long. I had missed both of my parents so much, and I now felt I could finally go home. It was only after some time that I ended up in San Fernando Valley for the last two years of high school. This is when I decided I wanted to stop packing up my life and moving around every year.
I chose to stay near my mom to go to college, but college was not a good fit for me. After a couple years, I started working as a Physical Education teacher in a local school where I had been a mentor. I enjoyed working with kids every day through athletics very much. It was wonderful though I knew it was not where my ultimate future lay. I was drawn to continue my search for a profession that I loved so much that I would know I would be doing for the rest of my career.
When my dad and I reconnected, I went to stay with him, quitting my teaching job and focusing on finding that next chapter in my life. He had been working on some real estate investments and I went with him to check out the properties. Through this, I connected with a local real estate broker who asked why I was not in real estate. I had already taken the necessary classes at the time and real estate had always interested me.
When I was very young and had days off from school, I would accompany my mom as she worked cleaning the homes
of others. Some of the homes I saw were very extravagant and looking back, I realized that real estate could be a possible way for me to reach my dreams. Real estate was in the back of my mind throughout the years as I collected more and more knowledge about it. But I never thought to jump into selling real estate.
I was finally convinced I wanted to get into the real estate business and received my license in 2003. Since that time, I have never looked back. I finally found the stability I had always been looking for. My wife, Myriam, and I have been living in the same area since our oldest daughter was only a couple of years old. We have raised our family here in the South Bay area close to Los Angeles, near Myriam’s family, in a community we love. Family is the most important thing to me. Being able to provide that same stability that I had always desired for
my two daughters has
been a dream come true. I want to pass this opportunity on by helping others reach their dreams and find stability in their lives through real estate.
Buying a house is more than an investment. It is the place you are going to create a life with your family.
